Ravo - Parsi Semolina Pudding

Ravo

Some days in the year are happier than others... some days, more fun... some days, sweeter... this is one of those days..

On any occasion that is to be celebrated, the day starts with a bite of sweet... Ravo is a Parsi sweet dish that is traditionally served as breakfast on "good" days.. birthdays and such... but it's too comforting and smile-inducing to be relegated to just those.. :)

On any day that I feel like being happy, I start with a bit of this sweet..

A Sunday...

In pictures....

A day spent at a fruit winery in Connecticut. For the interested, Rhubarb wine is quite a refreshing white!

Scones that taste like Summer....

Corn, Cheese and Sundried tomato scones

Yep, I started baking again... The heat has abated just enough for me to not melt when the oven is on. Or for that matter, butter stays in shape for more than a couple of seconds outside the fridge.

I figured that was a sign for making tarts, scones and such. I was in a savory mood and inspired by the barmy sun streaming in (through those same large windows I complained about before), I decided to bake some summer into a bite.

Hootie and the Blowfish.. and Couscous :)

Blow Fish with Couscous

Quick stop today! Have you tried the Blowfish before? No not the band (although those stories are welcome) but the fish.. :) yes, from that same family as Puffer fish but not quite as sinister!

Blowfish is a white fleshed, mild flavored fish that easily picks up the flavors that you coat it in. It is much like chicken in that respect as also in the way you eat it.. like a drumstick.

For a quick meal, I paired Smoked Paprika and Oregano Breaded Blowfish with a fresh Couscous with cucumber, sundried tomatoes and walnuts.

Quick lunches and Seafood

Stuffed Squid

Summer is the time for most things perfect.. beautifully ripe produce and the high season for meat. Except it is perhaps a bit too hot, in many places, to do much with all that good stuff.

Easy, quick meals that do not require prolonged periods of standing over the flame are my way of cooking through these few months of heat. Yes, and things that require the oven to be turned on are kept to necessity.
