Iced Sugar Cookies for Daring Bakers and a Call for Votes

As many of you know, I am participating in the Project Food Blog contest. Voting for round 2 is now open until Sep 30. I would much appreciate your votes. You can read my challenge post and vote here. Thank you very much! :)

Baby Cookies

Now, moving on to the other item on the agenda for today. It's the 27th and, Yes, that time of the month again, for a Daring Bakers challenge to grace our blogs! The theme for the month was Iced Sugar Cookies.

The September 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Mandy of “What the Fruitcake?!” Mandy challenged everyone to make Decorated Sugar Cookies based on recipes from Peggy Porschen and The Joy of Baking.

Baby Cookies1

Honestly, cookies are really not my thing and I find them, especially, the iced ones, way too sweet. Not surprising, given that the bulk of the icing is powdered sugar. So, I was going to give this month a skip. But, then life had other plans for me! :)

You see, one of my oldest friends delivered a baby girl last week. We have known each other for more than 15 years! It just seemed the perfect event to make iced cookies. R isn't a fan of pink stuff and neither am I; very restrictive and way to girly for me!:) So, I went with pastel shades in general. This was to be my test in drawing. I realised I am not so hot at it. LOL.

Cookie Cart

Still I managed some semblence of a baby carrier (yes, that green thing is that!) and some random doodles on others. For the black icing, I mixed some cocoa powder in the icing. In fact, that was the best tasting icing as the intense sweetness of royal icing was cut by the bittness of cocoa for a nice balance!

Thanks for sharing the recipe! I'm now itching to do some baking but I reckon the best part is decorating! What tips do you use for the icing, Asha?

Asha @ FSK said...

hey Trisha, I used Wilton tips 1,2,3. I made the standard sugar cookies but you can add flavor to the dough and have more fun..

Asha, I'm glad you changed your mind about making these cookies. Don't know about your drawing skills, but your cookies are "hot" as far as I'm concerned. :)

I loved the deco, I also think the icing sugar makes it way to sweet, though my daughter just loves it.

Those green prams are super cute! You did a good job on them, I like how perfect the white flooding came out on those cookies.
