No it's not yet another store! :) It's my store! Meaning, it's the place where I share my personal recommendations on products related to the kitchen and styling based on my personal experience or stuff that really excite me.
When I first heard of Open Sky, I was curious about it's practicality. Then I thought about my own buying behavior. Even for the smallest item, I tend to do insane research {in my corporate life, I was/am a researcher. That tends to overrun into the personal :)} and if someone I know actually uses(d) that item then I definitely seek their feedback. I find this especially true for the kind of stuff that goes into food preparation and presentation, basically kitchen and styling.
I find myself reaching out to bloggers to find out where they bought such and such that I see on their blog and what they thought of it. So, I thought perhaps, the idea of a "Open Sky" would after all appeal and infact was a crucial connection in the buying and selling process.
Then, well... I did more research.. This time, on Open Sky. I spoke with a member on the team to understand their process and value proposition better. Basically, it boils to simple word of mouth marketing. Which in this free market world, works out as sales being directly proportional to quality! :) The better a product, the more it sells and hence it's good enough for you to buy, even more so, coz I tried/liked it very much! Isn't that a comforting thought?!
Once, I was convinced of the working model, I looked at their supplier store. Imagine my happiness, when I found quite a few suppliers, I just fell in love with!! There are suppliers of vintage ware (YIPEEEE!!!), home goods (read: props!) and many many kitchen stuff.
One of my recent purchases was a digital kitchen scale from EatSmart. I later found out that EatSmart is a small family owned business. I have been very happy with my purchase and definitely recommend this product! Did you notice that my last recipe listed ingredients by weight rather than volume? I am hoping now I will even achieve Helen-like macaron perfection very soon. Anyway, EatSmart is one of the suppliers on OpenSky.
Now, for the economics angle! The products are competitively priced as well. For a business model perspective, this definitely hits all the high notes. Which is why, I signed on as a seller! :) I will be linking to products that you can directly buy from my site.
And, I would love to involve you in this process. Please do send me ideas for products that you have loved and would like to spread the word about. OpenSky can work on making them a supplier! Also, if you would like to become a seller yourself, check out the OpenSky website for how to and all the fun details!
